Cyclists Roll the Cold to 14th Annual Winter Bike to Work Day Rally on January 23

Warmer days beckon with registration opening for MB Financial Bank Bike the Drive

(Chicago, IL) — Celebrate Winter Bike to Work Day at Daley Plaza in Chicago’s Loop on January 23 for the annual celebration of cyclists who don’t let gloomy winter days or wind chill stop them from pedaling to work. Warm up with free Dark Matter coffee and slices of Eli’s Cheesecake from 6:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. at Daley Plaza, located at Washington and Dearborn Streets. Hot chocolate and tea will also be available.

Get a jump on your summer when online registration opens at 6:30 a.m., also on January 23, for this year’s MB Financial Bank Bike the Drive to be held on Sunday, May 24, 2015. Save $7 by registering online at www.bikethedrive.org through Monday, February 2 at noon. Get an additional $2 off and a free CamelBakTM water bottle when you stop by an MB Banking Center for an online promotion code good through February 2.

Winter Bike to Work Day is intentionally held during the most frigid time of year historically – on the Friday nearest to January 20, when Chicago recorded its coldest day ever in 1985 when the official temperature at O’Hare International Airport was 27 degrees below zero. Active Trans offers a video on how to bike comfortably and safely in the winter, and people can find winter biking gear from Kozy's Cyclery on the website.

MB Financial Bank Bike the Drive allows cyclists to enjoy the city skyline and stellar views of Lake Michigan on the only day of the year when Lake Shore Drive is open to cyclists and closed to car traffic.
