Did You Know?

Only 24 percent of jobs in the region are accessible by transit in 90 minutes or less by a typical resident — and that number drops to 12 percent in the suburbs.

What bicycling can do for the economy

Those who know me best know that I am above nearly all else, a cheapskate. I also, however, consider myself to be something of an environmentalist. Often, these two inclinations meet together in a sweet spot of personal interest: be it in transportation choice, energy usage, etc.

My love of bicycling is a great example of this intersection. Often, my frugality is the tipping point that gets me on the bike on these cold March mornings. That's why I was so happy to be tipped off by an Active Trans member (thanks Beth Arthur!) to this new article from Grist.org that explores the impact of bicycling on transportation cost, quality of life and local economic impact.
