To celebrate the official beginning of summer, here are some ideas for visiting beaches in the region without climbing behind the wheel of a car.

src=http://www.activetrans.org/sites/default/files/beach.jpgWithout a doubt, my favorite car-free beach destination is the Indiana Dunes State Park. The South Shore Line drops you off a short walk from the beach.

Even on the hottest days, you can always find some solitude on the beach if you simply step away from the beach house area. As icing on the cake, Indiana Dunes State Park contains some of the best hiking trails in the region.
