Did You Know?

About one-third of all work trips in Chicago are comprised of people biking, walking, or riding public transit.

Riverdale…Chicago’s connection to the south

After working with Active Trans for the past year on creating an active transportation plan and a Complete Streets policy, the Riverdale Village Board unanimously approved these two initiatives.

The active transportation plan will enure that people who bike will have safe routes that link the south suburbs and Chicago. Riverdale is a connection point with the Major Taylor Trail and the Cal-Sag Trail. Residents from north and south will have access to these trails through the Village of Riverdale while connecting parks, trails, restaurants, shops and schools.

In addition to adopting a Complete Streets policy, Riverdale has begun implementing its plan with the installation of bike racks and bus shelters and a snow shoveling ordinance. Riverdale was able to pursue the plan thanks to a Communities Putting Prevention to Work grant.
