Did You Know?

Half of school children walked or biked to school in 1969, but only 13 percent were doing it in 2009.

Help put helmets on the next generation of bike commuters

When students ride their bikes to and from school, it's essential that they have the knowledge and equipment necessary to ensure safe rides.

Active Transportation Alliance is partnering up with Groupon Grassrooots to raise money that will put helmets on the next generation of bike commuters.

If this campaign raises $135, then Active Trans can provide 18 children with bike helmets, along with proper fitting and bike-safety information. Each additional $15 raised will provide another child with a bike helmet and proper helmet fitting.

Those who donate $25 will also receive a one-year premium-level membership to Active Transportation Alliance, which includes a Chicagoland bicycle map and discounts at more than 100 local bike shops and businesses.

All donations will be matched by our partner Safe Kids Chicago up to the cost of 75 helmets, or $1,125.

Donate today – this campaign only runs April 30 – May 6, 2012.
