Recently, when I saw this image on Wabash Avenue in Chicago, I gained a whole new appreciation for buffered bike lanes.

Buffered bike lanes offer more protection for riders than do regular bike lanes. In this case, the lane offered enough room for a father and young son (in training wheels, mind you) to ride together comfortably down a major city street.
