Did You Know?

Decades of research shows that expanding roads doesn’t provide lasting congestion relief. More lanes means more traffic.

December 4th late night Trail report

As of 10:00 p.m. the Trail was in good shape from Ardmore to Fullerton. Heavy salt has been laid down and the trail has primarily dry pavement. The Trail should be in good shape for the Friday morning commute.

A note about the Oak Street Bend. The Park District nearly lost a vehicle at that location several years ago. The vehicle slid on the ice and, as I understand it, lost at least one wheel over the edge. They had to close down a lane of LSD and hook a wench from a tow truck to the vehicle to pull it to safety. After that, they decided not to plow or spread salt when this area is covered with ice.

The Park District will still, on occasion, plow the bend and the section between Oak and Ohio but you can not count on this being done. In the big picture, we have been talking to the Park District for years, trying to come up with a long term solution to the problem. More than likely this will end up being an Army Corps of Engineers job sometime down the road.
