Public transit users take 30 percent more steps and spend roughly eight more minutes walking each day than drivers.

Ch-ch-ch changes

It's a new year and two changes that affect your commute are now in effect.

As of Jan. 1, Chicago Transit Authority fare increase went into effect. Depending on how you get around, you could see an increase of $.25 to $.50 each way.

The bicycle commuter tax benefit is also available to businesses  and their employers. While there are still plenty of questions on this, the League of Illinois Bicyclists can point you in the right direction for now.

Happy 2009!
