Des Plaines makes strides for cyclists and walkers
It will soon be easier to bike and walk in the City of Des Plaines along the Oakton Street commercial corridor.
By adding parking lane lines and intersection treatments along the Oakton Street, the city is creating a safer, more inviting environment for people who walk and bike.
The projects is part of the city’s year-long active transportation planning effort being funded through a Model Communities grant awarded to the city last January.
Other initiatives that are part of the Model Communities grant include active transportation improvements to Pearson Street; creation of an active transportation plan and a Complete Streets policy for the city; a comprehensive school travel planning effort; and the purchase of bicycle racks for installation throughout the downtown and Oakton Street commercial district.
