The Chicago Department of Transportation (CDOT) has made major progress transforming Chicago’s streets into safer, more accessible places for people of all ages and abilities.
The city’s infrastructure bond has been essential to this work — funding repairs to roads and bridges, constructing new sidewalks, and expanding the network of bike lanes that connect our neighborhoods.
Across the city, these funds have powered dozens of crucial projects that make streets safer and strengthen multimodal connections between communities.
For every project, CDOT has engaged residents to ensure safety improvements reflect local priorities and needs.
With the current infrastructure bond set for a vote in the December 2025 or January 2026 City Council meeting, renewing it is vital to keep this momentum going. Continued investment will help make Chicago’s streets more walkable, more bikeable, and safer for everyone.
Here are a few of the many transformative projects made possible through this bond in the past:
NORTH SIDE
Clark Street Streetscape Improvements from Devon Avenue to Arthur Avenue: This streetscape project was based on the Vision Clark Street Corridor Master Plan. The project includes pedestrian safety and placemaking improvements, such as new sidewalks, ADA ramps and crosswalks, intersection enhancements, and new street lighting.

NORTHWEST SIDE
Milwaukee Avenue Reconstruction Project from Belmont to Logan Square: The Milwaukee Avenue project design includes pedestrian, bicycle, and bus stop improvements such as raised crosswalks, curb bump-outs, bike lanes, and reconfiguration at the square.

WEST SIDE
Chicago Avenue Streetscape Improvements from Austin Boulevard to Cicero Avenue: The Chicago Avenue streetscape project is part of the Austin Corridor Streetscape Improvement Plan to improve the pedestrian experience and safety, outdoor seating, and transit amenities along the corridor. Some of the improvements include curb extensions at intersections, raised crosswalks, bus bulbs, and bike lanes.

SOUTHWEST SIDE
Ogden Avenue Streetscape Improvements from Pulaski Road to Roosevelt Road: The Ogden Avenue streetscape project includes reimagining Ogden Avenue as a multi-modal transportation corridor by installing intersection improvements, new sidewalks, ADA ramps and crosswalks, curb extensions, bus boarding islands, and protected bike lanes.

SOUTH SIDE
95th Street Streetscape Improvements from Wood Street to Ashland Avenue: The streetscape project is the fourth phase of the 95th Street streetscape project that started at Western Avenue and extends to Wood Street. Improvements include connections to the Major Taylor Trail across 95th Street, new sidewalks, new ADA ramps and crosswalks, and pedestrian refugee islands.

SOUTHEAST SIDE
Commercial Avenue Streetscape Improvements from South Chicago Avenue to 83rd Street: Commercial Avenue is the main commercial corridor in the South Chicago neighborhood. This streetscape project builds on the plan developed by the UIC Great Cities Institute to create a thriving pedestrian corridor. Improvements include intersection upgrades, curb extensions, in-lane bus boarding, new sidewalks, raised crosswalks, and raised bike lanes.
