Top Chicagoland business and civic leaders attend VIP sustainable commuting awards night
Companies recognize the return on investment of car-free commuting programs

On Wednesday, July 10, 2013, Chicago-area civic and business leaders who are pushing their companies and constituents to the forefront of sustainable commuting will appear as VIPs at the Chicagoland Sustainable Commuting Awards Bash. For an hour prior to the event, they will receive an intimate tour of the venue, the DIRTT Environmental Solutions Green Learning Center 10th floor showroom at 325 N. Wells Street. They will meet with emcee Jerome McDonnell of WBEZ’s Worldview and enjoy champagne and locally-sourced hors d’oeuvres.

Attendees will include Frank Petito, President of Orbitz’s business unit and the keynote speaker for the night; Judy Martinez-Faye, Chief City Executive, Chicago, Siemens; Jason Child, CFO, Groupon; Bob Best, Executive Vice President, Jones Lang LaSalle, and Kathy Tholin, CEO, Center for Neighborhood Technology; among many others.

Chicago Department of Transportation Commissioner, Gabe Klein, has been invited, along with Oak Lawn Mayor-elect Sandra Bury, and DuPage County Chairman, Dan Cronin.

The event honors the winners of the Bike Commuter Challenge and the Chicago Green Office Challenge’sTransportation Month, which concluded June 14 with record-setting participation. Over 600 companies in Chicago and the suburbs competed, including many who did both, highlighting how easy and popular biking – and car-free commuting as a whole – have become in Chicagoland.

The free, invitation-only event will begin at 6 p.m. (with a 5 p.m. VIP hour) at 325 N. Wells Street, in the DIRTT Environmental Solutions 10th floor showroom. After cocktails and hors d’oeuvres, the invited speakers will address the gathering, followed by an awards ceremony honoring the winners of the Bike Commuter Challenge, the Chicago Green Office Challenge Transportation Month, and those teams who participated in both competitive events.

Free valet bike parking will be provided.

The Bike Commuter Challenge is sponsored by WXRT, The City of Chicago, SRAM, Village Cycle Center, Clif Bar, Dark Matter Coffee, and Divvy BikeShare.
