Active Transportation Alliance and Fifth Third Bank team up for 22nd annual bike ride on DuSable Lake Shore Drive
16,000+ people on bikes to wrap up summer at one of the nation’s best bike rides

CHICAGO, August 9, 2023 —
In its 22nd year, the heavily anticipated Fifth Third Bike the Drive event will once again bring out thousands of people for one of Chicago’s best annual events on Sunday, September 3, 2023. Hosted by the Active Transportation Alliance — a non-profit organization dedicated to improving conditions for bicycling, walking, and transit — the event will offer several hours of bike riding along the city’s crown jewel, Lake Michigan via DuSable Lake Shore Drive.

“If you’ve never done it, you’re missing out on one of the best biking events in the nation,” said Amy Rynell, executive director of Active Transportation Alliance. “It’s such a delight to ride along the beautiful lake with people of all ages from across the city and region. And participants can feel proud that they’re supporting efforts to make biking, walking, and transit safe and easy options for getting around Chicagoland.”

Fifth Third Bike the Drive will kick off at 6:30 a.m. between Bryn Mawr Avenue and 57th Street. The event includes a pancake breakfast, post-ride festival with live music, a beer garden, and activities for adults and children at Butler Field in Grant Park from 8 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Participants are encouraged to begin riding by 8 a.m. in order to enjoy as much of the event as possible. Register at 53bikethedrive.org.

The full route stretches 30 miles and participants are encouraged to ride as little or as much of the course as they would like. Riders who want to tackle the full route can sign up for the 30-mile challenge during registration and receive a commemorative medal.

“At Fifth Third we pride ourselves on our community involvement and helping our customers and communities transition to a lower-carbon, more sustainable future.” said Mark Heckler, Fifth Third Bank regional president. ” It’s exciting to see Chicagoans welcome friends and family from across the country to this fun, healthy, one-of-a-kind event.”

Divvy will also be supporting this year’s event by providing Youth Scholarships via an expanded partnership with the event.

Pricing for participation is lower for early registrants and for youth. Details are available on the registration site. The event is also seeking volunteers who will receive a free t-shirt, a pancake breakfast, and entrance to a rooftop pizza party in the West Loop!
