Decades of research shows that expanding roads doesn’t provide lasting congestion relief. More lanes means more traffic.

Transit justice forum: The Future of Transit

In partnership with a coalition of transportation advocacy groups from across the country, Active Trans will be hosting an online transit justice forum on Wednesday, December 9 at 6 p.m.

The COVID-19 pandemic has further amplified the importance of public transit in our city and country. To help us envision the future of public transit, we will be highlighting the transit justice principles developed as part of a national effort.

At our forum, community partners Garfield Park Community Council and North Lawndale Community Coordinating Council will be discussing transit justice in their neighborhoods. We will also be providing an update and overview on the federal budget picture for transit. Congressman Chuy Garcia will also participate along with the presidents of our local bus and rail operator unions, Ken Franklin of ATU 308 and Keith Hill of ATU 241. Finally there will also be a speaker representing CTA, Sam Smith, the Vice President of Legislative Affairs.

Please join us on December 9 (RSVP required).

Closed captioning and sign language interpretation will be provided.
