Did You Know?

A bicycle commuter who rides four miles to work, five days a week, avoids 2,000 miles of driving and about 2,000 pounds of CO2 emissions each year.

Tell us why your crossing guard is special, Chicagoland!

Each day, crossing guards throughout the region help us and our kids safely cross streets on the way to work and school. Rain or shine, crossing guards make our streets safer for pedestrians.

To recognize their efforts, cities around Illinois are celebrating Crossing Guard Appreciation Day on Tuesday, May 3.

You can recognize your local guard by:

1. Nominating your guard for recognition. Share your stories with us!
2. Printing out a certificate of appreciation and present it to your crossing guard.
3. Uploading photos of your special guard to our Flickr group.
