Did You Know?

Only 24 percent of jobs in the region are accessible by transit in 90 minutes or less by a typical resident — and that number drops to 12 percent in the suburbs.

Meeting with members

Wednesday night we hosted a great meeting with more than 30 of our members. It was exciting to get together to talk about the work of Active Transportation Alliance and listen to our members' ideas and questions.  Board and staff at the meeting truly enjoyed the time with our members.

We learned that we need to continue improving and streamlining our communication. Members also let us know they truly care about improving safety and expanding opportunities for biking and walking. We were excited to discuss our recently expanded mission and the opportunities it brings us all. Really, who isn't interested in bicycle-only cars and no rush hour restrictions on our regional transit system?

Members put stickers on our bike map to share their favorite routes and let us know about roads and trails that need more improvements to make them bike-friendly. Our wonderful planning department will be considering this feedback for the next edition of our Chicagoland Bicycle Map.

We shared that Complete Streets are built to safely accomodate all users including pedestrians, seniors, vehicles, bicyclists, people with disabilities and children. Illinois, Chicago and Dupage County all have Complete Streets policies requiring that new roads provide this acommodation.

In 2009 we're shooting to make a big deal about Complete Streets, our membership, Bike to Work Week, our fun bicyle rides and lots and lots of advocacy.

Thanks sincerely to all our members, we'll be scheduling more of these mission member meetings around the region this spring and summer.
