Great evening for a bike ride in Mount Prospect

The Village of Mount Prospect has been working with Active Trans and Sam Schwartz Engineering to create a comprehensive bicycle plan for the community.

/This week, 25 cyclists went out biking in Mount Prospect to see firsthand and discuss some of the recommendations of the proposed bicycle plan.

Representative from Active Trans and Sam Schwartz showed off five features of the plan and took questions from the group, which included village staff and board members, bike shop owners, members of local bike clubs and parents and children. With the weather cooperating, it  turned out to be a perfect evening for a four-mile informative bike ride.

In case you're not familiar with what a bike plan is, here's a quick overview of the goals of Mount Prospect's comprehensive bike plan (and many other municipal bike plans):

  • Develop a comprehensive biking and walking network consisting of marked on-street bikeways, signed routes, and multi-use trails where possible.
  • Develop a safety and education plan for the community.
  • Market bicycling, walking, and transit as viable transportation options to the community.

Please check out the draft of the Mount Prospect Bike Plan. Do let us know your comments.

For those of you live, work and spend time in Mount Prospect, you'll want to join us at the next public presentation of the bike plan to the village board on Tuesday, September 6th at 7 p.m. at Mount Prospect Village Hall, 50 South Emerson.
