Going to the National Bike Summit

Some of the Active Trans team will be at the League of American Bicyclists’ National Bike Summit this week, spending time with bike advocates from around the country and “walking the Hill” to meet with members of Congress.

As Active Trans executive director, I will be there. As will Adolfo Hernandez, Active Trans' director of outreach & advocacy, and Dan Persky, our director of education & advocacy. We're all looking forward to hearing from U.S. Secretary of Transportation, Ray Lahood and Janette Sadik-Khan, New York’s Department of Transportation commissioner—two people who have made splashes with their innovative efforts.

This is our chance to speak directly with our elected representatives about the benefits of biking, walking and transit. We’ll also be meeting with a coalition of bike dealers and getting a tour of DC by bike to learn about the city's plans for new bike lanes and facilities.

We’ll be posting some blog updates about our experiences. You can also follow us on Twitter @activetrans. Advocates from around the country will be posting messages that are hashtagged #bikesummit11. Stay tuned as we keep you in the loop.
