Bicycle and Pedestrian Committee Launches On-line Survey

Do you have ideas for improving conditions for bicyclists and walkers in Elgin? Are there aspects of bicycling and walking you particularly like? If so, the city's new Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee, established by the city council last fall, wants to hear from you.

The seven-member group recently launched an online survey on the city website that lets you record reasons why you bike and walk – or don't – and what might be done to improve such experiences. There are also open-ended questions which allow respondents to add information not asked by the regular questions.

It's our hope to promote bicycling and walking as an efficient and healthy means of transportation and for pleasure, said Jerry Turnquist, member of the group. We hope residents will take a few minutes to share their feelings. It will provide some valuable direction to our committee.

The survey is found on the main page of the city website at www.cityofelgin.org under Bike and Pedestrian Survey. The deadline for responding is July 31, 2010. Please call Paul Bednar, staff coordinator for the committee with any questions at 847 931 6788.
