Apply to bring Bike Month 2023 to your community!

Want to get some more momentum behind your community bike event?

Well, here’s an opportunity that could give it a boost.

Active Transportation Alliance is thrilled to offer a series of mini-stipends to support advocacy work and community-based events that celebrate biking during Bike Month in May 2023 — and beyond.

Program Details: This funding opportunity will award 10 stipends of $250 dollars each to advocates and organizations in the City of Chicago and Chicagoland suburbs. Applicants are encouraged to organize inclusive community events or activities that help showcase the many benefits of bicycling and encourage more folks to give biking a try.

Examples of events you could organize:

  • A community bike ride
  • A bike to school day
  • An education workshop such as a bike fix-it event
  • A bicycle audit with community leaders (where you assess the bikeability of a local route)
  • A film screening

Applicants are encouraged to create inclusive events that involve building community support for biking. Get creative and consider using this extensive list of events and activities for inspiration.

Who can apply: Any individual, group, or organization based in the City of Chicago or Chicagoland suburbs is eligible to apply, regardless of 501c3 status. However, due to the small size of the stipend, we ask that all resources be spent on direct expenses (e.g. materials, printing, food, etc.) and not staff time or salaries.

How to apply: To apply, please complete this online application form no later than Friday, May 5, 2023.

Winning applicants will be asked to report back to Active Transportation Alliance about the event and work with staff to write a blog about how the stipend was used to celebrate Bike Month. If you have any questions, please reach out to Maggie Czerwinski at maggie@activetrans.org.
