Dionne Baux

Dionne is the director of urban programs with the National Main Street Center, where she leads an initiative to broaden the center’s offerings and engagement in urban neighborhood commercial districts. Dionne has more than a decade of experience in project coordination in the fields of urban economic development and commercial district revitalization. Before joining the center in 2016, Dionne served as senior program officer for Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC) Chicago, where she managed economic development initiatives for the Chicago office, developed and led the award winning Business District Leadership program and the nationally recognized Smart Communities demonstration. Previous to LISC Chicago, Dionne served as a financial planning analyst for the City of Chicago’s Department of Community Development. Dionne holds a master’s degree in public administration from Roosevelt University and a bachelor’s degree in communications from the University of Illinois at Chicago.

Kim Bayma

Kim has lived in Chicagoland for more than a decade and has called Skokie home for four years. Being a part of an active community is a core reason she chose Chicago to be her home after living in car-dependent areas for her entire life. Kim has worked at LinkedIn as a success manager for nearly three years. Prior to LinkedIn, Kim spent seven years in human resources consulting at Aon Hewitt and Willis Towers Watson. Within the greater Chicago community, Kim served on the leadership teams for Chicago Lakefront Walk MS, Chicago Alumnae Panhellenic (where she was founding president), and Alpha Sigma Alpha Windy City Alumnae Chapter. Kim will soon receive her masters of science in learning and organizational change at Northwestern University. Kim completed her first 100 mile ride in the summer of 2016. 

Jane Blew Healy (past president)

Jane has been on the board of the Active Transportation Alliance for over 12 years and formerly  served as president of the board. She has seen the expansion of the mission of our organization as well as the development of Bike the Drive. Jane was a three term-elected member of the board of education for Cook County School District 130, which serves Blue Island, Crestwood, Robbins and Alsip in the South Suburbs; she presently teaches science in district 218, serving the same communities. As part of her tenure, she has worked to get playgrounds built, bike racks installed, promoted health and wellness initiatives, as well as successfully writing — and winning — two Safe Routes to School grants from the federal government. She helped found the Blue Island Bicycle Club, where she serves as president, and has developed and oversees a highly successful children's bike club that rides every Friday. Jane served as vice-president of the Friends of the Cal-Sag Trail group, serves on the city of Blue Island's Community Health Coalition, and helps work with the city of Blue Island and their park district on various activities. She has worked aggressively to promote Complete Streets in and around her community.

Corey Coscioni (past president)

Corey is the director of strategic alliance, corporate and business development at the business consulting firm, West Monroe Partners. He has more than 25 years of business consulting and information technology leadership experience in a variety of industries. He was instrumental in helping to improve the Lakefront Path Ardmore connection, and is a founding member of the North Lakefront Bicycle Users Group. Former president of Active Transportation Alliance's Board of Directors, Corey has been a board member for 20 years. He loves riding with his wife and 15-year-old twin daughters.

Lee Crandell

Lee is the executive director of the Lakeview Chamber of Commerce, which is a leader in supporting Lakeview businesses and the community through advocacy, education and promotion. Lee has more than ten years of non-profit experience working to make urban neighborhoods more livable and successful. In his recent role as Lakeview SSA 27 program director, he strengthened existing programming while developing new initiatives that support the business community and set Lakeview apart from other neighborhoods. His prior work experience includes four years at the Active Transportation Alliance and four years at the Congress for the New Urbanism. Lee has lived in Lakeview since 2002 and has served on the board of the Lake View Citizens' Council since 2008.

Rohan Galloway-Dawkins

Rohan is the product director of intelligence-led public safety solutions for Motorola Solutions. Previously, he led Motorola's software transformation efforts defining standard software offer structures, enablement and operations. He has worked for Motorola for 11 years, which included two-plus years living in Amsterdam, Netherlands, where biking was the dominant form of transportation. He has a master’s in electrical engineering from the University of Michigan and an undergraduate degree in electrical engineering with a minor in mathematics from Tulane University. 

Art Gilfand (treasurer)

Art is a senior accountant at the CPA firm, Gimbel Abrams + Singer. He is a member of the Chicago Cycling Club and the Evanston Bike Club and enjoys local rides and out of town invitational rides. Over the years, Art has been involved in planning many of Active Trans’ fundraiser rides. A resident of Chicago’s East Lakeview neighborhood, Art is a die-hard Cubs fan. He’s also a passionate supporter of public transit and loves using the advanced bike lanes that are becoming more common in Chicago, thanks in part to the efforts of Active Trans. 

Jay Goldstein

Over the years, Jay has started both for-profit and not-for-profit organizations. In addition to managing a suburban Deerfield bicycle shop, he co-founded his school’s first environmental club, founded an urban/suburban teen bicycle camping program and has led circle tours of Lake Michigan and coast-to-coast bicycle trips. He is a life-long resident of the north suburbs where he cycles with Velo Club Roubaix. In 2008, he and other members of the club formed the North Suburban Complete Streets initiative, linking more than a thousand area racing and recreational club members with cycling advocacy efforts to bring a broader and safer culture of cycling to the suburbs. Jay is the father of three and has served on the area boards of his Lake Forest congregation, the Chicagoland Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast, Young Life and Path-To-Spirit men’s workshops. Jay has an MBA from Northwestern’s Kellogg School of Management. Each June, Jay hopes he has enough of his own road cycling miles between group rides and commuting that he does not suffer too much while on vacation cycling across Colorado. 

Bob Hoel (president)

Bob Hoel retired in 2004 after 34 years at RR Donnelley. In 2008 his interest turned to bike advocacy, initially heading up the advocacy efforts of the Elmhurst Bike Club, one of the largest bike clubs in the Chicago area. In 2009 he asked the mayor of Elmhurst to form a Bike Task Force, which Bob chaired and resulted in Elmhurst being designated a Bike Friendly Community in 2013 at the bronze level. In 2009, Bob was named to the Active Trans Hall of Fame for his work in bike advocacy. He has attended several national bike summits, sponsored by the League of American Bicyclists. Bob also serves on the board of directors of Ride Illinois (previously called the League of Illinois Bicyclists). Bob’s undergraduate degree is from Illinois Tech (IIT) and his MBA in finance is from Kellogg/Northwestern University. Bob’s second volunteer passion is with Illinois Tech where he serves on the board of the alumni association. Most of Bob’s 3,000-plus miles per year biking is for transportation and he has extensive experience biking in France, Netherlands, Denmark and Germany. He is working to teach his grandson how to ride a bike.

Jeff Judge

Jeff is founder and CEO of Bright, a new analytics product that helps companies develop actionable insights in order to grow faster. Prior to Bright, Jeff co-founded and led Signal, and was an early engineer at Orbitz, helping build and scale the technology platform behind millions of travel bookings each year. Jeff lives in the Lincoln Square neighborhood of Chicago with his wife and four young children, and is an avid cyclist.

Jim Kreps (past president)

Jim is an architect and senior director, planning & design for General Growth Properties, a real estate investment trust that develops, operates and manages 120+ shopping malls around the US. Jim is also a LEED certified design professional who oversees sustainability guidelines in his company, including multi modal transportation alternatives and planning to/from our shopping centers. Jim is active in the Chicago Cycling Club and Evanston Cycling Club. In addition to serving as president of the Active Trans Board of Directors from 2013 to 2015, Jim has served on the Active Trans’ Events Strategy and Route Committees. Jim is a year round bike commuter from the north side of Chicago to his office in the Loop, and has participated in long distance endurance rides and successful completions of five 1,200K events, including Paris-Brest-Paris (twice). Jim is focused these days on multi day touring rides around the five great lakes (three completed) and coastal rides of the continental US, and a few overseas touring rides as well. 

Larry Mysz

Larry is a League of American Bicyclists Cycling Instructor (LCI), teaching bike safety and best bicycling practices to adults and children. As a regional LCI Coach, he travels the Midwest training and certifying LCIs for the league. Larry organizes and coordinates Learn to Ride at Any Age, a program where area LCIs teach cycling to adults who have never ridden a bike before. He is a member of the Active Transportation Alliance Board of Director’s Bike/Ped Committee, and is a member of the Chicago Heights Active Transportation Committee. Before retiring, Larry worked for more than 30 years as an independent software developer, performing scientific programming for NASA, Reuters, microbiology firms and actuarial firms. Larry lives in South Suburban Chicago Heights. He and his wife enjoy cycling and cycle touring, and are active members of the Folks on Spokes Cycling Club. 

Randy Neufeld

Randy started his career as a cycling advocate in Chicago at the Active Transportation Alliance when it was still known as the Chicagoland Bicycle Federation. He began as executive director in 1987, and then served as chief strategy officer from 2004 to 2009. He gained experience working in all aspects of cycling promotion, including planning, mapping, safety, marketing, design, policy, lobbying and funding. With the support of SRAM, a local bicycle components manufacturer, Randy continues as a leader in cycling advocacy in Chicago, nationally and internationally. Randy has been involved in numerous advocacy- and policy-related groups related to biking walking, including the National Complete Streets Coalition, the Chicago Bicycle Advisory Council, the Chicago Pedestrian Advisory Council, the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning Transportation Committee, the Alliance for Biking and Walking and the National Partnership for Safe Routes to School. 

Saumil Parikh

Saumil Parikh is a director at PricewaterhouseCoopers. He advises executives in leading companies within the technology, media and telecommunication industries in the areas of business and operational strategy, mergers and acquisition and product development. Before becoming a board member, he served on the Active Trans Advisory Board for 1.5 years, serving on its finance committee. Saumil received an MBA from Northwestern and a master’s degree from University of Florida in Gainesville, FL. He is a resident of Naperville, where he lives with his wife and two children. He and his family enjoy bicycling in the suburbs and in Chicago. 

Margarita Reina

Margarita is a maternal and child health epidemiologist for the Chicago Department of Public Health (CDPH), Office of Epidemiology. Her research interests are birth outcomes including low birth weight and prematurity, and health disparities related to infant mortality. She works closely with community groups preventing childhood obesity and promoting physical activity for families. As the team leader for the Bike Commuter Challenge in her office, she received an award on behalf of CDPH. In the fall of 2006, she began the Bike to Work Club at CDPH, where she provides lunchtime seminars to current and new riders. 

Peggy Reins

Peggy joined Active Transportation Alliance in 2009 while participating in one of the earliest Open Streets events in Chicago. She was impressed by Active Trans’ commitment to engaging diverse communities in making streets safe for walking, biking and active fun. Peggy’s wide-ranging experience in the nonprofit sector includes her current role as director of foundation relations for the Advocate Charitable Foundation, which is part of Advocate Health Care. Peggy has also held fundraising and program management roles at the Midwest Energy Efficiency Alliance, the Chicago Botanic Garden and Windows of Opportunity, Inc., a nonprofit organization dedicated to serving residents of Chicago’s public housing. Peggy has a master’s of planning degree from the University of Minnesota’s Hubert H. Humphrey School of Public Affairs. She has a keen interest in the intersection of health, energy, the environment and community development. Peggy makes her home in Niles, with her husband Chad McCoy. Together they bike thousands of miles annually, typically completing two cross-state bicycle tours each year.

James Rogers

Jim arrived in Chicago in 2012 to be general counsel of Orbitz Worldwide, and learned about Active Trans when he filled in at the last moment to accept Orbitz’s award for the Bike Commuter Challenge. He became a big fan of Active Trans, signed up for Divvy when it arrived in Chicago, and used Divvy to bike to work, even during the Chicago winter. Before he came to Chicago, Jim had been a partner in a large law firm in Washington, DC, and then was general counsel of TLC Vision, an eye-care company headquartered in St. Louis. He bought a used bike in St. Louis and rode it back home to Washington when his job was over, demonstrating a typical east-coast ignorance of Midwestern geography, which he has since overcome. Jim has become such a fan of Chicago that he has taken another job in the windy city, as chief legal officer of cars.com — but he still rides Divvy to work.

Elliot Rossen

Elliot is a multi-modal transportation user making frequent use of Metra, Divvy bike sharing, the CTA and walking. He is an executive vice president within the GfK Group, a large market research company, and is responsible for strategic brand innovation consulting. Before entering the consulting world, Elliot acquired 20 years of experience guiding marketing and new product development in both large public companies and privately-owned, entrepreneurial firms. He is a member of the Highland Park Bike-Walk Advisory Group, helping to bring progressive transportation approaches to that community. In addition, he is co-founder and former president of the North Shore Youth Sailing Coalition, a not-for-profit group organized to make sailing accessible to youth of all means and to facilitate greater usage and enjoyment of our wonderful lakefront. 

Cecilia Roth

Cecilia Roth is an attorney at Mayer Brown LLP, whose practice focuses on employee benefits law. She received her undergraduate degree from the University of Chicago and her law degree from the University of Michigan. She lives in the Hyde Park neighborhood of Chicago and commutes to work on the Metra train, then walks across the Loop to her office. She also is a recreational walker, jogger and bicyclist, and her husband is an avid bicyclist. She and her husband raised three children, all of whom walked to school from nursery school through high school. Between college and professional school, she and her husband served in the Peace Corps in the Dominican Republic. 

Rubani Shaw

Rubani has been living in the West Town and surrounding neighborhoods of Chicago (Humboldt Park, Logan Square, Noble Square, and Avondale) for more than ten years. He works as a designer for design and innovation agencies. In addition to being a year-round bicycle commuter, he is interested in ideas and activities that reflect his commitment to ecological, personal and urban health. Rubani volunteers at a local church, enjoys collaborating with people involved in urban renewal, and participates in a variety of outdoor activities. His culturally diverse background, drive for overall healthier neighborhoods, and inclination to find unusual or unique solutions to problems are some of the qualities he brings to the Active Transportation Alliance board. Rubani served as vice president of the board 2007-2011. 

Kevin Stanciel

A resident of the historic Gap neighborhood in Bronzeville, Kevin has more than 35 years’ experience cycling the streets of Chicago and riding the CTA, Metra and Pace. He has worked with the Openlands Project, City of Chicago Department of Environment and the Chicago Transit Authority, where he oversaw the initiation of the CTA’s bike programs. For a couple of years, Kevin worked as a transit consultant where he spent much of his time working to help improve transit in Detroit and Southeast Michigan. In 2016 Kevin was elected to vice president of the Active Transportation Alliance Board. Kevin is a graduate of the University of Illinois-Urbana where he received a master’s of urban planning. He currently works at the Regional Transportation Authority coordinating planning and technology projects with CTA, Metra and Pace. 

Emily Tapia-Lopez

Emily is the director of strategic initiatives for HNTB, an architecture and civil engineering company. She has more than 14 years of planning, public engagement and communications experience. She has developed and implemented strategic communication, advocacy, media and outreach campaigns for clients, including government agencies, national association groups, engineering and transportation-related entities. Emily provides clients with in-depth knowledge on the public regulatory process and political risks associated with policy. Prior to joining HNTB, Emily was vice president at a strategic communications and public affairs firm and managed the firm’s public-private partnership and infrastructure practice. A Chicago native, Emily has a master’s degree in urban planning from the University of Illinois-Chicago. 

Peter Taylor

Peter is a systems engineer for the University of Chicago Biomedicine Information System, where he has worked since 1988. Peter was a member of the Stanford University varsity football team from 1979-1982. He has five children, and has been active member of the Major Taylor Cycling Club Chicago, a group formed to help promote bicycling among Chicago’s African-American community. Active Trans gave Peter its Public Service Award at its 30th Anniversary Soiree for his efforts in getting the Major Taylor Trail off the ground, and his work over the years to help ensure the trail lives up to its potential. Peter has served as serve as the trail’s lead advocate, pressing the city for better maintenance and installing basic elements like trash receptacles and signage. He lives in the Chicago neighborhood of Roseland Heights.
