Today, the Chicago Sun Times reported in this story that one-half of all 18-34 year olds admit to text messaging while driving. Recent research at Virginia Tech University showed that text messaging while driving can increase the risk of a crash 23 times.

Last spring, Active Trans championed a bill to ban Illinois drivers from text messaging while driving. Last summer, the Chicago Transit Authority adopted a zero-tolerance policy for its employees caught text messaging. Meanwhile, the Drive With Care campaign is helping teenagers motivate their peers to adopt safer driving practices.
