Vision Zero Chicago Summit postponed

After announcing our first Vision Zero Chicago Summit last week, Active Transportation Alliance heard from several community leaders who were concerned the event wouldn’t be inclusive.

While our intention was always to have a strong community presence at the event and include speakers from communities of color, we didn't communicate that with the initial invitation, and didn't connect with key leaders prior to releasing the date and draft agenda.

We apologize for mistakes in how the event was rolled out. For these reasons, we have decided to postpone the summit and continue our work with community partners to build a stronger event.

Equity is central to the mission of Active Trans and we can’t make progress as a movement on any issue without prioritizing the involvement of communities most in need.

Like other Vision Zero cities, Chicago faces many challenges in changing its culture of reckless driving and ending preventable traffic deaths. We remain committed to helping promote open and honest dialogue around these issues moving forward.
