The role bikes play in creating a better world
Chicago Bike Week is when we celebrate the role bikes play in creating a better world.
Over the past few months, we’ve been reminded again and again how the issues of biking and mobility intersect with broader movements for social justice.
We must continue to prioritize the needs of communities most harmed by an unjust transportation landscape, Black and Brown people, poor people, and people with disabilities.
We must also do everything we can to dismantle the white supremacy and structural racism that creates walking, biking, and transit for some, but leaves out the people who stand to benefit the most from more mobility options.
Here are three ways you can join us in acting for mobility justice this Bike Week:
- Support Chicago’s community bike shops, that provide incredible learning and leadership opportunities for youth across the city.
- Read our statement in support of Black lives, including links to support Chicago based organizations on the front lines of racial justice.
- Dig into these resources to learn more about mobility justice and biking.
