Villa Park Metra station gets a makeover thanks to volunteers

Armed with rakes, brooms, pitchforks, shovels, their bare hands and some serious ambition, a group of over a dozen volunteers set out on Saturday to beautify the Villa Park Metra station.

src= group transformed the station—served by the Union Pacific/West Line—from bare and boring to lush and inviting by spreading mulch in dirt areas along the platform and adding flowers and plants to four-foot wide pots already surrounding the station building. They also removed rust from several bike racks and trash receptacles and repainted them.

These Villa Park volunteers plan to maintain the work into next spring, inviting others to join in on community service events throughout the year.
