Half of school children walked or biked to school in 1969, but only 13 percent were doing it in 2009.

Stimulus Transparency

How refreshing it is to be able to have a window, albeit a small-ish one, into our government's choices. This week Gov. Quinn launchedwww.Recovery.Illinois.gov, a tool for every taxpayer interested in the $787 billion federal stimulus package. This site allows folks to quickly view state-focused information about the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, submit project ideas and get access to relevant state and/or federal agencies and applications. I'll be watching to see how the funds for transit and transportation, energy efficiency and school modernization are being spent. As much as I'm hoping that stimulus funds are spent on sustainable projects, I'm delighted to have at least one tool available for keeping track of the progress. Chalk one up for the people!
