Si se puede: Reclaiming public space in Logan Square

In Mexico, plazas are commonplace in every small town and major city. They serve as an important part of the community fabric, providing a space to play, chat with neighbors and just sit and enjoy the day.

They often include art installations, gardens, as well as space for shops, live music, sitting and for fun. Plazas and public spaces can do that in any community.

Here is your chance to support a plaza in Logan Square, Chicago's neighborhood with the second least amount of green space in the city. Alderman Rey Colon of the 35th Ward will be hosting a meeting to discuss a proposal to permanently close off Woodward Street at Milwaukee Avenue and Kimball Street to create a public plaza that is inviting to the community.

The meeting will be on Tuesday, March 8th at Voice of the City, 3429 W. Diversey Pkwy (above the Family Dollar), at 6:30 p.m. Read more about the effort and see cool conceptual drawings.

Help show your support for the plaza and for public space in the city by attending the meeting and sharing your ideas with Alderman Colon.
