Did You Know?

Nearly five children are hit by people driving every day in Illinois while walking or biking within one block of a school.

Pedestrian Safety Bill

HB 43, sponsored by Rep. Pritchard and Sen. Steans, will change Illinois law to require drivers of cars to stop for pedestrians in crosswalks, rather than yield.

Last week, we brought two University of Chicago pediatricians to Springfield to lobby for our bill. Thanks to their help we picked up several new supporters. Active Trans suburban members recently received an action alert. Please ask your Senators, especially those in the suburbs, to co-sponsor HB 43.

Today, we received more good news. Access Living, one of the largest advocacy groups for people with disabilities, is supporting HB 43. Their support combined with previous endoresements from the Illinois Association for Chiefs of Police and AARP demonstrates the wide appeal of this bill.
