New trail projects in DuPage County and beyond
DuPage County is known for its great bike trails. The county puts a huge amount of effort into maintaining its existing trails and continually building new ones. Here are a couple trail construction projects underway that you may not have heard about.
- The Schick Road Bike Trail will provide access to residential areas and a safe route for walking and biking to Bartlett High School. The trail will also connect to Hawk Hallow Forest Preserve, where another bike path is scheduled for construction.
- A new 2.5 mile trail is being built along Fair Oak Road from Army Trail to St. Charles Road. A T will lead to Benjamin Middle School to the east and tie into the Great Western Trail and Illinois Prairie Path to the west. The trail will connect large sections of Carol Stream to major roads, schools, forest preserves and Metra.
Wondering about other trail projects underway in DuPage County? The county has a webpage that documents progress on trail improvements. There's also a page documenting trail closures in the county.
In other local trail news, Active Trans is embarking on a project that will analyze the safety and convenience of the Illinois Prairie Path street crossings. We will keep you up to date as this project moves ahead.
There's clearly a need for better street crossings along the Illinois Prairie Path. Some friends of Active Trans are currently circulating a petition to improve the Illinois Prairie Path street crossings in Cook County at 1st Avenue and at Mannheim Road.
