Did You Know?

About one-third of all work trips in Chicago are comprised of people biking, walking, or riding public transit.

Help spread the gospel of active transportation!

The Active Transportation Alliance is looking for individuals from the North, West and South Suburban communities as well as within the City of Chicago to serve as members of our Volunteer Ambassadors Corps.

This is an exciting opportunity to participate in our work at a whole new level, and is exclusively available to Active Trans members. Volunteers will receive special training to assist our education and membership efforts. Here's what they'll do:

  1. Represent Active Trans at community events to discuss safe active transportation; provide information about us, our work and how people can become members.
  2. Serve as support staff for various Active Trans educational events, including bicycle rodeos, bicycle and pedestrian safety events and Active Trans events.
  3. Conduct learn to ride events in your community, during which Volunteer Ambassadors will use a simple and proven method to teach children shed their training wheels (or better yet, forgo them altogether) and master riding on two wheels. That’s right, you will be teaching children how to ride a bike!

Once selected for the position, Volunteer Ambassadors will be required to attend one of three 4-6 hour training sessions in March 2012 (03/16, 03/17, or 03/18).

Volunteer Ambassadors will be expected to work with other ambassadors and members from your surrounding communities to encourage and promote safer bicycling, walking and transit use.

All volunteer Ambassadors must be Active Transportation Alliance members. (Volunteer hours can apply to a membership.) If interested, please contact Active Trans' Education Specialist Jason Jenkins at jason@activetrans.org.
