Does it say something important about cycling when one of the biggest names in clothing manufacturing decides to launch cycling-specific trousers?
Then the company tours the country offering free bike tuning, bike-y giveaways, customized tailoring, a bicycle photo booth and a “DIY bike bag workshop.”
I’d say so.
This Thursday, Aug. 25, Levi’s will set up a trailer in Chicago at Big Star Taco (1531 N. Damen Ave.), 4-8 p.m., and Friday they will be at the gathering point for the Critical Mass ride at Dearborn and Washington Streets at 5:30.
By the way, Levi's new 511 Commuter jean sounds neato: Reflective elements, a reinforced crotch, U-lock loop, and stretchy fabric.
For now, however, the jeans only come in the “skinny” style; let’s hope they see the wisdom in offering these bike-friendly features in a range of styles.
