Did You Know?

About one-third of all work trips in Chicago are comprised of people biking, walking, or riding public transit.

Final vote on HB43 next week!

We are in the home stretch to support legislation that protects bicyclists and pedestrians.

You have been hearing from us all spring and now we expect final votes from the Senate this week. Make the final push with us and call your senators and urge them to support these important bills!

HB 43: “Must stop for pedestrians”
HB 43 will change Illinois law to require drivers to stop for pedestrians in crosswalks, rather than yield. With this clearer law, we will see a cut the number of people that are hit in crosswalks in Illinois. In 2007 alone, more than 6,000 people were hit.

HB 43 is scheduled for a final vote as early as Tuesday May 12. Call your senator and urge them to support HB 43. Not sure who your senator is? Find out here.

HB 71: Texting while driving
HB 71 will ban the use of most text messaging while driving in Illinois. HB 71 may also have its final vote on Tuesday. We expect the bill to pass, but you can still urge your senator to support the bill

HB72: Talking on cell phones
HB 72 will ban the use of cell phones while driving in a highway construction zone or school zone. We expect the bill to be voted on this Tuesday

You have already helped generate huge support around these bills and now it is time for the final vote. Call now!
