Bus riders account for more than 20 percent of people using Lake Shore Drive every day while taking up a fraction of the space that cars do.

December 1 Lakefront Trail report

With the rain last night switching to snow early this morning we ended up with a icy, snowy mess on the Lakefront Trail this Monday morning. The Park District has plowed and salted the Trail but the continuing blowing snow and the underlying ice continue to make the Trail somewhat difficult to navigate. I rode to the Loop this morning fine with my cross tires but the Trail certainly is slippery and caution is advised. As of 10:00 this morning there was very little bare pavement north of the Chicago River.

Water is splashing over the Trail south of Fullerton and at the Oak Street Bend. You can ride the dirt running path (which has been plowed) to the west of the Trail just south of Fullerton. I was able to get around the Oak Street Bend but did get wet when a big wave splashed all the way to the wall. The Park District has installed sawhorse barricades at the north end of the Oak Street Bend as a warning to Trail users.
