Did You Know?

Decades of research shows that expanding roads doesn’t provide lasting congestion relief. More lanes means more traffic.

Calling all fifth grade students: Tell us why bicycling is fun and healthy!

The League of Illinois Bicyclists and Active Transportation Alliance are partnering with Saris Cycling Group, a manufacturer of bicycle racks and cycling training products, to launch a poster contest promoting the benefits of riding a bike.

The contest asks fifth grade students to create a poster around the theme “Bicycling is fun…and healthy too!” The purpose of the activity is to get kids thinking about all of the roles bicycles play in their lives.

Three students will be selected as finalists in Illinois—one winner will receive a new Schwinn bike! A national winner will also be selected who will receive a 3-day all-expenses paid trip to Washington, DC.

For more information on the contest, including detailed instructions and required forms, visit the League of Illinois Bicyclists poster contest page. Contact Gina Kenny at gina@bikelib.org with any questions.
