And the winner is…

Active Transportation Alliance and League of Illinois Bicyclists are delighted to announce the winners of the 2012 Saris Cycling Poster Competition. Students were asked to create posters centered on the theme, Bicycling Takes me Places!

  • First place winner in Illinois: Willie McGee Jr., from Aldridge School in Chicago
    Willie will receive a bicycle, helmet and light. He is also now entered in the national contest, where one winner will receive a trip for two to Washington DC for the 2013 National Bike Summit.
  • Second place winner in Illinois: Jessica Kelly, from Western Trails Elementary School in Carol Stream.
    Jessica will receive a bike helmet and bike light.
  • Third place winner in Illinois: Matthew Tudder, from Old Post Elementary School in Oswego.
    Matthew will receive a bike helmet.
  • First runner up: Taylor Veach, from Lake Crest Elementary School, in Charleston.  
    Taylor will receive a bike light.
  • Second runner up: Amatullah Mir, from Aqsa School, in Bridgeview.
    Amatullah will also receive a bike light.

Fifth graders from across Illinois submitted posters. We were wowed by the creativity and talent of these students.

Want to send Willie McGee, Jr. to Washington, DC? The national winner will be selected through a public vote. Online voting will be from Monday, April 2 through Friday, April 6.
