Nearly 1,000 bike commuters packed Daley Plaza on Friday morning, June 17 for Chicago’s Bike to Work Day Rally.

Under bright sun and pleasant temps, WTTW’s Geoffrey Baer emceed and new Chicago Department of Transportation Commissioner Gabe Klein addressed the crowd, proclaiming a bright future for all Chicago’s commuters.
Many people at the rally were also participants of the Bike Commuter Challenge, which is just wrapping up after a week of high fives, sweet swag and friendly competition. The challenge, which includes workplaces from throughout the Chicago region, pits like-sized businesses against one another to see which can get the highest percentage of bike commuters during Bike to Work Week. Employees from more than 400 companies participated.
Active Trans was on hand at the Bike to Work Week Rally to help celebrate two-wheeled commuting and promote its Neighborhood Bikeways Campaign – which supports the creation of a 100-mile network of protected bike lanes to be installed over the next four years.
