Chicago cyclists will brave the cold at Winter Bike Rally on Friday
Advocates call for more bike lanes to support bicycling year-round

Chicago, Ill: February 5, 2019 — On Friday morning at Daley Plaza Chicago cyclists will rally to celebrate the growth of winter bicycling and push for more investment in biking and walking projects.

Giveaways will be available for cyclists who brave the cold, including free Eli’s Cheesecake and hot Dark Matter Coffee. The Winter Bike Rally presented by Keating Law Offices is an annual event hosted by the Active Transportation Alliance, a not-for-profit advocacy organization for better biking, walking and public transit in the Chicago region.

What: Winter Bike Rally Presented by Keating Law Offices

When: Friday, February 8th, 7am – 9am

Where: Daley Center Plaza (50 W. Washington)

Sponsors: Keating Law Offices, Eli’s Cheesecake, Nuun Hydration, REI, Dark Matter Coffee, Revolution Brewing, Wheel and Sprocket

Advocates will be collecting signatures on a petition to the next mayor and city council to create a new, dedicated Bike Walk Fund of $20 million annually. Projects could include better-lit crosswalks and countdown timers, curb protected bike lanes, and bus stop bumpouts. This fund would be prioritized for city streets where the most crashes occur, most of which are in low-income communities and communities of color on the South and West Sides.
