Every day in Illinois, five kids are hit by a car while within one block of a school.
Unsafe streets keep kids across the state from walking and biking, cutting them off from the health, economic and academic benefits of increased physical activity.
The Safe Routes for Healthy Kids campaign is working to change this story and we need your help.
Send your Illinois State Representative a letter asking them to support our legislation to make it safer and easier for kids to walk and bike to school.
This past Wednesday, Active Trans and advocates from around the state joined members of the Illinois General Assembly in Springfield for a walking tour of local streets to highlight the barriers children face to safely walking and biking to school.
What we saw would be familiar to residents across the state: streets designed to move cars as quickly as possible, with children walking or biking to schools facing dangerous intersections and inadequate sidewalks.
We brought our message directly to Springfield, now it’s your turn to do the same.
Send your Illinois State Representative a letter asking them to support our legislation to making it safer and easier for kids to walk and bike to school.
